Welcome back to my Substack, today I’m writing about all my favorite activities to do during the fall in the PNW. I have done most of these, and have added a few in that I’ll be doing this year.

We’re about 2 weeks out from the official start of Fall (ahem, September 22nd) and already it feels like summer has come to a close. Halloween decorations are all over the stores, and people are already posting photos from previous years of gorgeous fall leaves, and cozy nights in by candlelight.
Here in Portland, we have a heat warning with 90 degrees+ days for the next bit, but we know that cool weather and fall foliage is *so close*. As a Virgo woman, and planner I can’t help but map out each season far in advance. My circle of friends are infinitely busy with work projects, family commitments and travels so planning fun ways to spend time with each other is just how things roll nowadays.
If you also want to start planning, or would like to refer back to this list in the coming months, here is my PNW Fall Bucket List that includes 20 ideas!
1. Spooky cones at Cheese and Crack:
This seasonal cone pictured above is so fun! They usually launch them in October.
2. See a movie at an old theatre:
I love a cozy movie on a rainy day. My favorite ones to visit are the Baghdad, Laurelhurst and Hollywood theatre.
3. Fall colors at Mt Rainer (full article with info here)
4. Watch the infamous Swift migration:
at Chapman Elementary School in Northwest Portland to see an incredible sight. One hour before sunset, thousands of Vaux’s Swifts gather overhead as they prepare to roost for the night.
